En–ML: an English-to-Malayalam Telegram dictionary
En–ML Dictionary is a Telegram bot I built to make English-to-Malayalam word lookup accessible inside a conversation. It uses open-source OLAM dictionary data and a Laravel backend.
Dictionary lookup inside Telegram
The bot lets a user look up an English word and receive its Malayalam translation through Telegram. There is no separate dictionary website to navigate for that interaction. Telegram provides the messaging interface, while the Laravel backend handles the translation and suggestion functionality.
Built on open-source dictionary data
The vocabulary comes from OLAM, an open-source dictionary dataset. My contribution is the Telegram integration and Laravel application that make that data usable through a messaging workflow. The dictionary data itself is not an original language corpus created by me.
When an exact match is unavailable
Alongside real-time translation lookup, the bot provides similar-word suggestions when it cannot find an exact match. That gives the user another way to continue a lookup and find the intended word. The project focuses on dictionary translations and word suggestions.
My contribution
I built the bot using Laravel and the Telegram Bot API, connecting the messaging experience to OLAM data. It is a focused example of my work with API integrations: using an existing communication platform as the interface for a small, useful application.
